You will arrange your own airline travel. Plan to arrive in Athens by Thursday March 27 so that you can rest from your jet lag and get oriented. We will travel by ferry to Rhodes on Sunday the 30th. Modern Greek classes will begin in Rhodes Monday March 31 and will continue for about three weeks. Near the end of our Modern Greek study, we will begin traveling to archaeological sites in Athens and Attica and continue on to Delphi, Epidaurus, Mycenae, Tiryns, Nauplio, Ancient Corinth, Olympia, Pylos, Crete, and Thira (Santorini). For the 3+ weeks of this part of the trip, we will pay particular attention to the topography, history, and archaeology of Greece.

During weeks 7-10 we will sight read extensive sections of Homer’s Odyssey and several Platonic dialogues. Most days we will read 6-8 hours per day or even more. Many evenings we will eat together and discuss ideas that arise from our readings.

Perhaps you will want to stay on at the end of the trip and do some individual travel in Europe. If you don’t, you should probably plan to fly out of Athens about June 10.
